When the Hubbard High School Band went to play at the Indy 500 race last year and then spent a day working and practising on college campus with the Butler University band, they never thought they’d get hooked on college. It was such an eye-opener that many of them have now set their sights on college after High School.
We thought it would be great if we could get our own Illinois universities on board to try and make this annual college trip a regular event.
To do that, we need to get them to work with us in order to give these talented teens a chance to see college at work.
We are hoping to arrange some kind of partnership programme with one, or all four, of the Illinois universities. We are hoping they will host the Hubbard Street High School Band for a day on campus, with a chance to work with the college band combined with an orientation around campus to get a feel for what college life can offer them.
As we already saw, a lot of these kids never even saw college as an option before their first visit to a college campus. Making this event a regular event will go a long way to inspiring many others that pass through the band to aim higher. We’re working on it right now but we could always use your help.
