Educating children in Cameroon is not easy and despite the good intentions of the government, there is a great lack of resources and trained staff.
At Catalyst Exhibits, we’ve been helping GMMAfrica provide a vital educational service, by funding motorbikes that get teachers to remote villages and also raise money as taxis to better fund the education services they offer to a large number of under privileged children that have nowhere else to turn.
Teh Francis, in his regular updates, has been letting us know what’s been happening there.
“I promised to send across some photos to help update you on the work going on here. We love doing it this way because your contributions have helped spark off so many activities that have a huge impact on the lives of very needy children. Your first donation and the one you worked out through Bekins Moving company have acted as a catalyst for several success stories as we work with the children. I told you last time about the number of children we helped at the elementary school in Jinkfuin village, and then with money raised from the motorbike taxis we continue to help more children……”
“Because the government of Cameroon has made computer studies obligatory both in primary and secondary schools we found that a computer training program for the children and students is not a matter of choice but of necessity.
We took a giant step and went ahead with it and many children are being helped. We have a day computer training program and an afterschool computer training program for the students. There is overcrowding though and with only few computers we are forced to scheduled students for particular days in training. We pray to have more computers soon so as not to disappoint these children. We are the only people who offer services of such a kind in all of Boyo Division in Cameroon.
Children who want to learn computer are always charged exorbitant prices in other places.
We are thinking of getting a good photocopier that will also help raise money so we can pay our electricity bills and other expenses. The program is really benefiting many people. Those who have computer classes during the day are teenage mothers who, for one reason or another, have despaired of life.
We are developing a project for them and having them learn about using computers is a big start. They are very happy and I always tell them about your contributions.”
