WANTED: Volunteer To Educate Children In Cameroon

dee ryan and max at GMMCatalyst Exhibits has been working closely with GMM Africa for some time, to help bring proper education to the many underprivileged children in Cameroon.

Volunteers play a key role in that and, as volunteers go, Dee Ryan from Ireland [pictured here with Max in Cameroon] has been a fantastic help, particularly with the child sponsorship program. Unfortunately, Dee will be heading home from Jinkfuin in Cameroon, after spending a year helping many children get a better start in life. Now, they need someone else, someone who’s will to spend just a few months doing something hugely worthwhile in an exotic location.

GMM’s director, Teh Francis, sent us this update on recent activities:

“We are happy once again to greet you through a general letter and say we’ve been happy with our accomplishments in 2010 and in the beginning of 2011. Many things have gone right because some of you have devoted your time, your energy and your resources to make things easy for us. We have continued to intervene in the lives of several children, needy women, widows, youths and several disadvantaged. Some of you who volunteered here personally last year will easily understand what I am saying. You can see the impact made in so short a time. By ourselves, we cannot do a thing.

I salute all past volunteers, all sponsors for the children, all donors, all online volunteers and everyone who is connected to us in any way. We really lack the words to thank you. We simply know nothing goes for nothing in this life. You are simply very remarkable people. We shall always remember you.

I also want to give some updates. Dee the Irish volunteer who has been working in the child sponsorship program, and doing a very excellent and professional job will be leaving in June of this year. She’s going back home after spending a year with us. She has really revolutionized affairs here. The child sponsorship program is simply perfect as far as records and accountability is concerned. We already dreading her departure in June. Who then will replace her? If any of you finds someone who can volunteer in that post for 2 or 3 months, then please encourage them. We have volunteers who come for a short time and I do not whether there shall be one in place when Dee leaves.”

If you are interested in doing some good then contact Teh Francis at revteh@gmmafrica.org to find out more.

You can read about Dee’s adventures and experiences working in Cameroon at the GMM Volunteer Blog.
