Last week we caught up with the Thailand art school project, run by Chatchada Kruakaew, for the first time in over 6 months. The travelling art program, which is designed to help children express themselves through art – especially those kids who have suffered a lot in the lives so far –  is going from strength to strength.

Chatchada’s travelling art program covers numerous districts in Thailand and is designed to teach children how to paint, express themselves and help them overcome personal tragedies or difficulties in their lives so far.

We do what we can here for Chatchada and her program but it could always do with some extra support.

However, Moda Esperanza – the brilliant charity fashion group that turns the tabs from soda cans into fashionable accessories – is continuing to do the opposite. The group – set up to help single mothers in Honduras, and now Chicago – takes the worthless soda can tabs and turns them into very hip, fashion accessories [see photo on right]. The money earned then goes straight back to the people that really need it.

To put that in perspective, the group gave us some idea of how important the sale of even just one item can be to those women:

-  Buy a Lily purse and provide one day of meals for a mother & her children

-  Buy a Nely purse and provide 11 days worth of clean water for a family

-  Buy a Felicita purse and provide safe transportation to and from school for 2 days

Check out the Moda Esperanza site to see the great items they have created and even buy some for that teen in your home. If you like what you see and want to help promote the charity, just ‘Like’ “esperanza project” on your Facebook wall, adding the www.modaesperanza.com website link.

This will help spread the word to all your friends and hopefully lead to more work flow for the women in Honduras and in inner city Chicago. Some shots of the harsh conditions in the Honduran village where some of the Moda Esperanza women live and work.

OK, so it’s a couple of weeks late but it’s the thought that counts. Right?

It should be because the great kids being taught arts and crafts by the wonderful Chatchada Kruakaew and her brilliant travelling art program in Thailand have really put their hearts into sending us all some wonderful St. Valentines artwork.

As you can see, love is in the air alright and we were delighted to receive this latest update from Chatchada, who organizes art and art therapy classes for children across various districts in Thailand. Her goal is not only to teach children how to paint but to teach them how to express themselves through art and to help them overcome difficulties in their lives so far.

Last week we ran some photos from Chatchada Kruakaew’s brilliant travelling art program in Thailand, something Catalyst Exhibits has been actively supporting.

One of the first people we helped out with when we at Catalyst Exhibits started our Area 3 charity activities was Chatchada Kruakaew’s travelling art program in Thailand.

Run across various districts the art and art therapy classes are designed to not only help children learn how to paint but to allow them to overcome previous hardships in their lives through art.

She sent us some shots of her students and their artwork from a few different locations that she teaches. More after the jump.
